Being a California girl in Tennessee, I always tell people about how I was raised on “Techno and Hip Hop.” In just a few days lower Broadway will be filled with thousands upon thousands of Country Music lovers in town for the CMA fest- and meanwhile, I couldn’t name a Tim McGraw song if you paid me money- and my upcoming Bonnaroo Style Tips Guest Blog on GiveIt2Goodwill.org – mirrors more closely my musical tastes. However, that didn’t make it any less exciting to be sitting next to Darius Rucker yesterday on an epic music video shoot for the CMA fest. For the first time in my life- I was hired to do some stand in work, which provided me a wonderful opportunity to be around some country music legends and to see all of the fascinating behind the scenes action (lighting set ups, camera angles, etc) on this wonderful collaboration . Although I can’t share any juicy behind the scenes photos or details- I can share one thing… my 100% thrifted outfit!

I kept it simple and, if I’m being honest, the country music theme was just sort of accidental and instinctual I guess. I chose the white tank because they told me to wear solid colors and the only solid colors I really own are whites. Then as I was about to run out the door- I decided, very last minute, that I wanted to wear this adorable high waisted denim button up skirt- instead of leggings. The boots just happened to be in my car- and I grabbed them after the Assistant Director told me I should wear “real shoes” to stay safe on set. The denim Western shirt? another “afterthought” which I grabbed in case I got cold. I guess the spirit of Country Music was strong within me yesterday.
Total outfit cost: $12 Tank Top: $4 Goodwill, Skirt: $5 Goodwill, Boots: $1 Goodwill Outlet, Belt: $2 Goodwill, Necklaces: Heirloom from my Grandmother and handmade gift of a real seahorse and starfish in resin- given to me by my lovely sister. Lilies: Free from my backyard 😉
