Transformation Tuesday: Vintage Dress Revamp Tutorial

Oh hey,

So, I have a confession. Remember that show: “Extreme Makeover”? I know it is a terrible, horrible, superficial show…but I kinda liked it.  I mean who doesn’t like a good make-over? Like on Oprah- when they take the women who always wear bad mom jeans and sweat pants and give them a sassy haircut and some new duds and then they come out and the audience goes wild and their kids cry over how amazing they look… I mean makeovers are like, the best.  Am I right?  So obviously- when I’m thrifting, I have a good eye for those beautiful girls on the racks with cool buttons and pretty fabric-  just waiting for me to wave my magic wand and turn them into the dress they always knew they could be.

Wonder Thrift

Don’t tell Goodwill- but I found this beauty at Southern Thrift for $8.  It had so much right (size, pockets, flared skirt, buttons, FABRIC!) and I knew that with a sleeve trim, a hem and a fixed button- it could be the most darling dress in the world!

I created this simple (and hilarious) tutorial for all you crafty thrifters and beginning sewers out there.  In about 1 hour I was able to take this dress from weird to darling and you can too! Let me know what you think and what make-over sewing tips you are dying to know!

  1. Very cute! I am determined to learn how to sew properly this year and start altering clothes I find in the op-shops. You’ve inspired me to get my butt into gear! 🙂

      1. 🙂 I am useless at all kinds of sewing. Embroidery and hand sewing I can do…but ask me to hem my own pants and I am an idiot who has to ask her Mum. Simple every day tips and altering advice, like in this video. I am determined this year to start sewing properly! (or at all) 🙂

      2. I totally understand! Great that you embroider and hand sew! My Couture dresses are pretty much entirely handsewn so you can do a lot with those skills! Imdone happy to know that simple everyday tips are helpful! I’ve seen a lot of tutorials with pictures- but I still get confused- so I figured video would be a good medium 😊 let me know what you think about next Tuesday 😀
