Keeping it Normal with Thrift…

In an ideal word, I would probably wear a mixture of fairy wings, unicorn onesies, super eclectic retro and over done avant garde all the time- but alas- I am an actress, so I usually have to show up to my auditions looking like a somewhat normal human (and from time to time a young mom- lol) – so I have developed a habit of looking for “audition wear” every time I go thrifting. Flattering neutral colors, no patterns, things you would take your kid to school in (if you were in a commercial of course- because I would take my kids to school in a unicorn onesie)

Last Friday it was 33 degrees- and I’m incredibly lucky that I wore “the couch” (a San Francisco Thrift Town find that I found all the way back in 1999) because the waiting room was a large studio warehouse and it was cold as ice. It was a pretty dramatic audition and I’m happy to say I threw down like a boss (thank you The Acting Center for my brilliant training) and although I didn’t get the part, (I have learned in this biz that maybe they just didn’t cast you because your hair was too long or too short or too dark or too blonde) the only thing I ever really care about during in an audition is delivering a performance that I can be proud of.

The audition was in an industrial part of Nashville so, as I was driving to my next obligation for the day, I kept my eyes peeled for a good location to stop and snap. To my extreme pleasure, I discovered Miss Kitty’s Place: a random little dive bar with no other buildings around it, just down the road.

So here you are: Coat: Thrift Town SF in 1999 $15 (I think) Over-sweater: Ann Taylor from Goodwill $4, Sweater: Gap from Goodwill $4, Jeans: DKNY from Goodwill $7, Leather Boots: Goodwill Outlet (yes- they have a Goodwill outlet- where you can buy thrift by the pound!) $1, Bag: Junior Drake sample sale purse- Gifted from my lovely sister, Locket: Grandma’s. NOTHING here that isn’t thrifted or gifted! Total outfit cost: $31
